we have a black syrian hamster, and she's kinda cute, but i haven't mustered the courage to pick her up from her cage. i usually get her poured into my cupped hands. and because she's basically a black blob, she's not the most photographable creature around. her wheel squeaks, and she only goes on the wheel at night, which drives us crazy, so we've limited her access to the wheel - day pass only.
